Front Cafe ~ Coffee Shop and Roaster, San Francisco

One of the ‘new to me’ coffee bars that I had the opportunity to visit last December, Front Cafe in Potrero Hill. Very good experience at this coffee bar, I loved their coffee, the very good use of space, and all the details in the design of this shop housed in a former industrial loading dock.

Beautiful late morning light in Potrero Hill, perfect for coffee, and perfect for photos.11633042396_130383ef0d_b11632619474_3d752283b2_b 11983933585_30e54cfce6_b

I tried their pour over, a cappuccino, and I took a very good cold brew to go.

Christmas 2013 Road Trip ~ San Francisco, California

A few images from my Christmas 2013 mini road trip to the Bay Area. I love San Francisco, I enjoy being there visiting their awesome coffee bars and pastry shops, the amazing Ferry Building Marketplace, their full of history Chinatown, and just enjoying the busy, but kind of relaxed vibe of the city by the bay with its mix of the very old architecture and the very new. Before this trip, my last San Francisco trip was in September 2012, and just for one day, you can see a few images of that day here. This time I was able to stay three days, and still there was plenty more I wanted to see and do, but not enough time. Hope to be back soon.

Two of my favorite pastries this time, a perfect Kouign Amann at B. Patisserie and a fabulous Gingersnap, Quince Brown Butter and Pomegranate Cube Cake at Craftsman and Wolves. sfo duo11615276243_35c4ffb2ec_b

Mission Bubbles & Coffee serves Verve Coffee in a very cute and fun setting, plenty of seating by the pretty washers and dryers. A very good coffee and a nice chat with Barista Hector. Good times.11998843274_f884eec2ab_b

Soon another post with more photos, more coffee, and more about Christmas in San Francisco.

House Roots Coffee, Pop Up Espresso Bar ~ Valencia, California

I usually spend some of my time off out of town exploring, eating, and drinking a good coffee at one of my favorite coffee bars. I do love and enjoy my day trips, but many times I wished that there was a specialty coffee bar in town, those days when I am craving a good coffee and for some reason I can’t leave and have to spend my days off at home. Imagine how happy I am with the opening of House Roots Coffee in Valencia, a small, but very complete coffee bar pop up bringing us expertly crafted coffee from top roasters, with great customer service in a nicely designed setting. House Roots is serving coffee made in a diverse set of ways by highly skilled baristas with an incredible hospitality. This is the first specialty coffee bar in Santa Clarita Valley. The images below are from a special event held to celebrate the launch of House Roots Coffee Pop-Up Bar. On this day they served Heart Coffee Roasters espresso drinks, cold brew, pour over, and pastries from the very popular and awesome Cafe Dulce, they also brought very special vendors; Ricky’s Fish Tacos, Sweet Clementines Popsicles, Funklafel, RedThreads and beautiful Handcrafted Jewelry by local artist Donna G. And if that was not enough, they had a very special surprise for their guests, live music by Run River North, if you are not familiar with this amazing band, you should stop by their website, incredible talent.

I had a very good time at this outstanding event, it’s always great to see how the barista family supports each other, there were many familiar faces from the Los Angeles coffee community, Valencia is about an hour away from L.A.

Thank you for your amazing hospitality House Roots Coffee. Welcome to Valencia!

Copa Vida ~ Coffee, Tea, Life ~ Pasadena, California

This is a long overdue post about beautiful Copa Vida. Very true that my photos don’t give the credit deserved to the beauty of this coffee bar, so you really have to go visit them and see it in person. I’ve been to Copa Vida quite a few times, but mostly on late evenings when there is no natural light, all of the images below were captured at night using just available light. I do prefer shooting when there is natural light, but how could I resist not taking some photos and sharing them here.

There is so much beautiful detail at this stylish and beautifully designed coffee bar in the city of Pasadena, almost every corner has a something that gets me and makes me want to capture it. I’ve always enjoyed my visits, great coffee and tea and the awesome hospitality of Steve Chang and the very talented, Frank La and Sam Hong. This shop has a very clean feel, spacious, plenty of seating and a beautiful slow bar.

Coffee and Tea Perfection!

Their top of the line coffee and tea making equipment is gorgeous and impressive.10283531856_91f56ff1ea_o

Sprudge and Stumptown Coffee Roasters ~ Arts District, Downtown Los Angeles

Coffee life in Los Angeles is just getting better and better. I had the opportunity to photograph Stumptown’s fantastic space at their new home in L.A., Yes, Stumptown Coffee Roasters from fabulous Portland, Oregon is now in Los Angeles. Gorgeous space, great coffee, great people, and very good pastries too. Stumptown’s pastries are by Chef Sharon Wang of Sugarbloom Bakery, Sharon is a former pastry chef from French Laundry, Bouchon, and Per Se.

Here are a few images and some outtakes from my assignment shoot for Sprudgeone the most popular coffee publications on the planet, this was my first time shooting for them, and I loved it. Candle Light Bakery and Espresso Bar ~ Norwalk, California

It’s been probably at least a year since I heard about Candle Light Bakery and its coffee program, but didn’t have a chance to visit until last weekend. I didn’t know what to expect and it was a nice surprise, a great bakery that takes coffee seriously. Quite a hidden gem in the middle of Norwalk serving one of my favorite coffees, 49th Parallel from Vancouver, BC, Canada, and also Heart Roasters from Portland, Oregon. At their espresso bar they have pour over coffee, a standard espresso-based coffee menu, plus a couple of variations like a very nice horchata latte. I am happy about this diverse bakery, excellent coffee program, great pastries, cakes and beautiful special occasion cakes, there’s no doubt that behind scenes there is an amazing pastry chef working his/her magic.

Such a great hospitality! Thank you Barista Daniel.

October’s Halloween Decor.

Gibraltar, Horchata Latte, Butterfly Chinese Pastry, Small Palmier, and a Mexican Wedding Cookie. I loved Candle Light’s diversity.

I really can’t wait to go back, I would love to try their cakes, and a croissant, and a napoleon cake too. I was there for about 45 minutes enjoying my coffee and pastries, there was nonstop in-and-out traffic with people picking up their beautiful custom made cakes, everyone was walking away happy.

Menotti’s Coffee Stop ~ Venice, California

Menotti’s Coffee Stop is another great asset to the growing L.A. coffee community, serving San Francisco’s Four Barrel Coffee just down the street from the Venice Beach Boardwalk.

This new coffee bar is run by super talented barista Christopher ‘Nicely’Abel Alameda. I met Christopher at Intelligentsia Venice when he just had moved to Los Angeles via Seattle about 5 years ago, a kind young man who always delivers coffee perfection. Christopher is a Champion Latte Artist, his specialty coffee resume dates back to 2005 when he started his coffee career at Espresso Vivace in Seattle, Washington. It is great to see him as head barista here, his passion for excellence in coffee making will make Menotti’s a great coffee stop.

Coffee + Bakery For All ~ Coffee Commissary, Burbank

I want to share a few images from when I visited Commissary a couple of weeks ago, just a few days into their soft opening, they were still working on some finishing details, but the space already looked great. I can’t wait to go back now that it’s officially open.

Nice coffee bar and bakery with its own personality, bright and airy space, great details and great choice of colors, a retro but modern feel to it.

A great asset to Burbank, Commissary serves good coffee and great made in house pastries in a comfortable space with a beautiful patio and plenty of parking.

Congratulations on your beautiful third location Coffee Commissary!
