Menotti’s Coffee Stop ~ Venice, California

Menotti’s Coffee Stop is another great asset to the growing L.A. coffee community, serving San Francisco’s Four Barrel Coffee just down the street from the Venice Beach Boardwalk.

This new coffee bar is run by super talented barista Christopher ‘Nicely’Abel Alameda. I met Christopher at Intelligentsia Venice when he just had moved to Los Angeles via Seattle about 5 years ago, a kind young man who always delivers coffee perfection. Christopher is a Champion Latte Artist, his specialty coffee resume dates back to 2005 when he started his coffee career at Espresso Vivace in Seattle, Washington. It is great to see him as head barista here, his passion for excellence in coffee making will make Menotti’s a great coffee stop.

Coffee + Bakery For All ~ Coffee Commissary, Burbank

I want to share a few images from when I visited Commissary a couple of weeks ago, just a few days into their soft opening, they were still working on some finishing details, but the space already looked great. I can’t wait to go back now that it’s officially open.

Nice coffee bar and bakery with its own personality, bright and airy space, great details and great choice of colors, a retro but modern feel to it.

A great asset to Burbank, Commissary serves good coffee and great made in house pastries in a comfortable space with a beautiful patio and plenty of parking.

Congratulations on your beautiful third location Coffee Commissary!

Happy First Birthday ~ Taza, A Social Coffee House, Arcadia

About a year ago we were on our way to an event at the Santa Anita Racetrack, we were almost there when by mistake we made a wrong turn, we were about to correct that and go back in the right direction when suddenly we spotted a sign that read coffee, now open. Since I can’t see a coffee bar without stopping, we decided to quickly check it out planning to stay only ten minutes … we end up staying much longer than that.

We are grateful for that wrong turn, because it took us to a very nice and newly opened coffee bar where we found great coffee and met very kind people. Since that day Taza has become one of my favorite coffee bars. Taza, A Social Coffee House is owned and run by a fantastic family, they serve great coffee from the best roasters, teas, ice cream, and baked goods including pastries from Sugarbloom Bakery.

A Very Happy First Anniversary to my friends at Taza, A Social Coffee House!

Thank you Sonny, Ada, Max, Enzo, and Sofia for your always incredible hospitality.

Coffee Made From The Heart, Andante Coffee Roasters ~ Mid City West, Los Angeles

Los Angeles now looks like a great coffee city and this is just the beginning, it will just get better and better.

Trying to keep up with the coffee bars that recently had opened, I’m glad I had time to visit Andante Coffee Roasters, it was a great coffee experience. The coffee and tea were great, I tried a very honey butter bread, I enjoyed the comfortable and airy space, and I had an amazing coffee conversation with Tommy Kim, one of the founders of Andante Coffee Roasters.

Tommy trained at the Kono Coffee School in Japan, he is an expert in different techniques and brewing mechanisms, his coffee knowledge and the love and respect he has for coffee is quite impressive. He talked about a very important factor in coffee making, not the measures, numbers, temperatures, techniques, etc. … coffee should not just taste good, but should feel good and this can only happen when the coffee is made from the heart.

I absolutely agree.

I love coffee. …but a cup of coffee made from the heart feels good and means so much more.

Thank you Tommy Kim!

Andante roasts its own coffee, and as soon as their new roaster arrives they will be roasting on site.

Congratulations, and thank you for your awesome hospitality Tommy Kim, Steve Hyun, and Jacob Park.

Can’t wait to visit Andante Coffee Roasters again.

Cafe Dulce Pop Up Espresso Bar ~ Downtown Los Angeles

I’ve finally had the opportunity to visit Cafe Dulce Pop Up, a Pop Up Espresso Bar by Little Tokyo’s Cafe Dulce.

Such a great place, Dulce’s friendly and talented baristas, amazing coffee, great location with tons of parking, and the special and unique hospitality that Cafe Dulce is well known for.

Loved this espresso bar … airy, clean, pretty, and a very minimalist space which gives a sense of calmness that I welcome anytime.

Los Angeles Coffee Community is looking quite good!

Bike-Up Espresso Bar Experience, Cafecito Orgánico Pop-Up ~ 24.7 Mile Marker, L.A. River Bike Path

Sometimes good coffee can be found in the most unexpected places, like just off the bike path along the L.A. River in Elysian Valley.

Yes, it is possible to go for a ride, for a walk, horse ride, or just drive your car and park near the 24.7 mile marker on the L.A. River trail then walk up to where Cafécito Orgánico sets up his pop-up espresso bar in collaboration with RAC Design Build. I went last Saturday, September 14, it was great to see Cafecito Orgánico’s Angel and Mitch on bar, good coffee experience, great vibe, relaxing setting, and great coffee. This was just the second time that they do this, and plans to be open every two weeks, and I was told that they hope to soon make it a weekly event.

Most of these photos were taken with my iPhone 4, but I hope they tell you a little more about this awesome L.A. River Pop-Up Espresso Bar.

Their hours are 7 am to 1 pm, but it’s better to check Twitter for more accurate information @cafeOmuerte.

One Thousand Steps Beach ~ Santa Barbara, California

One thousands steps to get to the beach?

No worries, nowhere near a thousand steps, more like 250 very slippery steps that lead to a beautiful, narrow sand and cobble beach just up the coast from Shoreline Park. I adore walks by the beach and I think I’ve said this before, but for me it is the greatest mind cleansing therapy.

It was my first time there and I loved the peacefulness of this secluded neighborhood beach, very few people around either walking or relaxing. Amazing views too, and supposedly if you are there when there is low tide you can witness when very intriguing tide pools are revealed. I can’t wait to go back. Let me know what you think if you go. And if you go take your time to be careful on the steps, remember that they can be wet and slippery.
