solita ~ Valencia, California

solita Tacos & Margaritas, a restaurant based in Huntington Beach, just opened their second location in the Santa Clarita Valley. I was kindly invited by a friend to solita’s friends and family pre-opening/training night. It is a beautiful restaurant, I love their floor plan with an airy feel and a nice connection between indoor and outdoor seating, including the bar area. Also great to see their open kitchen concept. As always I’ll let my photos tell you a little more. Since now it’s quite dark by 5:00 pm and we were there for dinner, the light was not the greatest for food photography, therefore not that many food photos.

Thank you Angela for the invite. Good times.

Andante Coffee Roasters in Echo Park ~ Los Angeles

Congratulations Andante Coffee Roasters on your second location in Echo Park! Andante is one of my favorite coffee bars in Los Angeles.

A couple of days ago I stopped by Andante’s new shop in Echo Park, so great to be there for a visit and have a great coffee conversation with exceptional barista Tommy Kim, Andante’s co-founder. I had the opportunity to try Tommy’s SWRBC Brewers Cup competition coffee, a truly amazing Geisha. Thank you Tommy for sharing, I’m still thinking about your Geisha coffee, probably the best coffee I’ve ever had.

A new to me coffee bar, Andytown Coffee Roasters. Thanks to a recommendation, I went to this coffee bar/bakery and loved it. This most likely will be one my first coffee stops next time I go to San Francisco. Great coffee, very good made in house breads and pastries, nice shop located in a pretty neighborhood. Unfortunately no photos of the coffee and pastries, they didn’t wait for the photo. Next time.

Road Trip ~ Highway One – Big Sur – San Francisco

Earlier this month on Labor Day Weekend we went on a short road trip thru the magical California coast, with a focus on Big Sur and spending a couple of days in the beautiful city of San Francisco. A good time enjoying a drive by miles of amazing scenery on the road, the beach and the ocean. I have a few images to share, I’ll let them do the talking. Enjoy!

Compañia de Café, San Fernando, California ~ Coffee with Coffee Friends

About a week ago included in my weekend plans was a stop by a new coffee bar in San Fernando, I did not know much about it so I had no idea of what to expect. I was quite surprised to find a beautiful coffee bar, with a fantastic concept, great coffee program in a very humble and beautiful atmosphere. Gorgeous ceramic tile wall behind the bar, beautiful counters, lighting, hand made in Mexico ceramics, warm decor inspired by Mexican family traditions, a beautifully designed coffee bar and pastry shop that feels quite good. It was also great to find that Compañia de Café coffee program is directed by an excellent barista that I’ve know for a few years now, Percy Ramirez. Percy is doing such an amazing job directing coffee, they have the familiar specialty coffee menu plus signature drinks, and their own take on classic Mexico inspired drinks. At this time they are serving fantastic coffees from George Howell Coffee, Heart Roasters, and 49th Parallel. I left the shop knowing that I had to go back and bring some of my coffee friends with me. So coffee with coffee friends happened a few days later. The pastry program at Compañia de Café is by pastry chef Tamara Davis, who was once responsible for the pastry selections at Boule and Bottega Louie. They offer traditional Mexican inspired pastries and great empanadas at this México inspired, Coffee and Pastry Bar.

Special thanks to Percy and to everyone at Compañia de Café for their awesome hospitality.

Coffee Colab ~ Downtown Los Angeles

I enjoyed my visit to Coffee Colab in Downtown Los Angeles’ Fashion District. A coffee bar that has quite its own character. Friendly and super talented baristas, which guarantees a great cup of coffee. Colab ia a collaboration between three great coffee people which happens to be people that I’ve known for a while, I am very happy for them and I wish them great success. Congratulations once again to one of my favorite coffee bars, Taza. A Social Coffee House, one of my favorite baristas, The Humblecup, and the great coffee roaster, Suits and Knives. You may read more about it at Daily Coffee News by Roast Magazine.

Images showing some of the details you’ll find when you visit Coffee Colab.

Enjoy!

The Classic ~ Coffee Bar in Downtown Los Angeles

Yesterday after morning coffee in downtown, I noticed that a coffee bar that I’d seen under construction a few weeks before was already open and decided to quickly stop and check it out. Located in the Fashion District, still on soft opening with some barista training going on, but looking great nonetheless. Comfortable space, glass windows all around with nice shade provided the trees and buildings around, serving Intelligentsia coffee and tea. Great seeing some familiar faces working at the coffee bar, looking forward to visit again.

Blacktop Coffee ~ Arts District Los Angeles

Couldn’t wait to share images from this new coffee bar in the Arts District, Blacktop Coffee. Serving great coffee from Sightglass Coffee, beautiful Heath Ceramics, a beautifully designed shop in a small, but comfortable space, plenty of sidewalk room, and nice people all around. I shared some of my photos with Daily Coffee News, where awesome writer Nick Brown can tell you more about this new coffee bar. Make sure to read his article.
