Day Trip ~ Coffee and Dessert in Santa Ana, California

A last minute day trip last Saturday to Orange County with a focus in Santa Ana, it didn’t disappoint. I enjoyed my visit to the new and very nice 4th Street Market, I can’t be happier when I find great coffee and amazing dessert within a couple of blocks of each other, and then a nice lunch just a couple of miles away. The last time I was in that area as a destination and not just passing thru was perhaps 20 years ago, it was great to go back. Santa Ana is looking good! I am looking forward to another trip to that area in the near future. There’s more to explore.

The highlights of my trip: Coffee at Hopper and Burr, Dessert at Dough Exchange, a very bold priobiotic agua fresca at Radical Botanics, and a very nice lunch at Dat Thanh in Little Saigon. Good times.

Found Coffee, Eagle Rock ~ Los Angeles

I am so happy to share this photo essay, not just because I am able to share a beautiful shop that serves good coffee, but also because I’m so proud of my friend Ehnie, owner of Found Coffee in Eagle Rock. I had the opportunity to visit Found Coffee yesterday on their first weekend of soft opening, they have an amazing staff, a very comfortable space, the type of coffee bar that I love to visit. Ehnie created a very cozy shop, a coffee bar where you want to go and sit with a good friend, or a group of friends and have a nice conversation while drinking a great cup of coffee. It is a feel good place!

I highly recommend you to visit Found Coffee, located at 1355 Colorado Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90041. As of now during soft opening their hours are 7am to 7pm Tuesday thru Thursday, and 8am to 3pm Sunday and Monday.

You may read more about Found Coffee at Daily Coffee News, by Roast Magazine.

Congratulations to everyone at Found Coffee! Congratulations Ehnie! I love your coffee bar, can’t wait to visit you often.

As always I’ll let my photos tell you a little more about this great coffee bar.

Thursday Evening Town Center Farmers Market ~ Santa Clarita Valley

I love Farmers Markets! I am very happy about having a weekday evening farmers market in town. Location at Westfield Valencia is very convenient, safe, plenty of parking, and a very nice setting, and when you add to this a small, but nice variety of good quality produce plus other certified products, it is just great. It is a very small market as of now, but I hope it gets the support needed to continue and grow. I mainly shopped the certified side of the market, since that’s my main interest in a farmers market, although I bought food from the pork carnitas vendor and it was very good. What I saw at the market this last Thursday was a great beginning, I really hope the vendors are consistent and keep bringing such a great and fresh produce every week.

UPDATE:

After posting this, I went back to the Farmers Market on their second week and it looked like it was going in the right direction, a few more vendors and still looking great. Then on the third week, much less vendors, so it was a little disappointing. Yesterday I went back to give it another try, but sadly it looked even worse than last week, very few certified farmers market stands, but quite a lot more miscellaneous vendors, like jewelry, accessories, clothing, art, home improvement, etc.  ~ It is sad to say it, but now it is much less of a farmers market and more like a swap meet type of thing. I hope they think it over and make it a real farmers market. **Photos below are from the first night of the farmers market.

Steeple House Coffee ~ Sun Valley, California

Just visited recently opened Steeple House Coffee, a new coffee bar in Sun Valley. Located by Grace Walk on the grounds of Grace Community Church and The Master’s Seminary, the coffee bar is open to everyone. At this time they are serving coffee from Klatch and a coffee from Portland’s Left Roasters, it seems like they will have a coffee roaster rotation. They are also serving Art of Tea and pastries from Cake Monkey. Very friendly staff, great coffee, and one of the most peaceful coffee bar settings I’ve ever been to, with comfortable indoor seating and more seating just out their door at Grace Walk. It really feels good to be there, so calm and serene, perfect place to visit with a friend or to do quiet reading or studying, all while enjoying a nice cup of great coffee and a good pastry. I will let my photos show you more of this beautiful coffee bar.

solita ~ Valencia, California

solita Tacos & Margaritas, a restaurant based in Huntington Beach, just opened their second location in the Santa Clarita Valley. I was kindly invited by a friend to solita’s friends and family pre-opening/training night. It is a beautiful restaurant, I love their floor plan with an airy feel and a nice connection between indoor and outdoor seating, including the bar area. Also great to see their open kitchen concept. As always I’ll let my photos tell you a little more. Since now it’s quite dark by 5:00 pm and we were there for dinner, the light was not the greatest for food photography, therefore not that many food photos.

Thank you Angela for the invite. Good times.

Andante Coffee Roasters in Echo Park ~ Los Angeles

Congratulations Andante Coffee Roasters on your second location in Echo Park! Andante is one of my favorite coffee bars in Los Angeles.

A couple of days ago I stopped by Andante’s new shop in Echo Park, so great to be there for a visit and have a great coffee conversation with exceptional barista Tommy Kim, Andante’s co-founder. I had the opportunity to try Tommy’s SWRBC Brewers Cup competition coffee, a truly amazing Geisha. Thank you Tommy for sharing, I’m still thinking about your Geisha coffee, probably the best coffee I’ve ever had.

A new to me coffee bar, Andytown Coffee Roasters. Thanks to a recommendation, I went to this coffee bar/bakery and loved it. This most likely will be one my first coffee stops next time I go to San Francisco. Great coffee, very good made in house breads and pastries, nice shop located in a pretty neighborhood. Unfortunately no photos of the coffee and pastries, they didn’t wait for the photo. Next time.

Road Trip ~ Highway One – Big Sur – San Francisco

Earlier this month on Labor Day Weekend we went on a short road trip thru the magical California coast, with a focus on Big Sur and spending a couple of days in the beautiful city of San Francisco. A good time enjoying a drive by miles of amazing scenery on the road, the beach and the ocean. I have a few images to share, I’ll let them do the talking. Enjoy!
